Dr. Linda Mason will host a Beginning Grantwriting Workshop for faculty, graduate students,
staff and administrators of Oklahoma higher education institutions on Monday, November 6, from
9 am to 3:30 pm in the OCAP Conference Room, Suite 450 in Building 840 of Research Park in
Oklahoma City. There is no fee for the workshop, but you must register. Send an email with your
contact information and position in higher education to firstname.lastname@example.org. The workshop is limited
to 20 participants. It is helpful to bring a laptop computer for hands-on activities in the workshop.
New Video Provides Overview of New NIH Policies on Human Subjects Research
and Clinical Trials: Do you do research with human participants? If so, you play an important
role in NIH initiatives to improve accountability and transparency in the human subject research.
This overview of New NIH Policies on Human Subjects Research and Clinical Trials provides a
succinct explanation of the various policy changes and what they mean for you.
The Office of Technology Development will offer the Innovation to Impact Series
Session 4 – “Copyright 101 .” Topics to be discussed will be: What is a Copyright?; How do I protect
myself from Copyright Infringement claims?; What is fair use?; and Is there value in Copyright?
This session will occur on October 25th from Noon- 1:00 pm in Biomedical Research Center Building,
Room 103. Lunch will be provided.

Notice of Changes to NIH Policy for Issuing Certificates of Confidentiality
Effective October 1, 2017

Effective October 1, 2017, all research that was commenced or ongoing on or after December 13,
2016 and collects or uses identifiable, sensitive information will automatically be issued a Certificate
of Confidentiality (CoC) for applicable NIH awards as part of the award terms and conditions
This policy applies to all biomedical, behavioral, clinical, or other research funded wholly or in part by
NOTE: Studies that have a CoC must include specific language in the informed consent form (if
applicable to the research study). The OUHSC IRBs will evaluate NIH-funded studies on a case-
by-case basis and may request investigators revise their consent forms to add CoC language at the
time of Continuing Review or Modification submissions (see OUHSC Consent Template for language).

ORA Noon Conference: Introduction to Grant Writing - This talk is designed to present a
brief overview of the grant writing process and considerations for new investigators or those new to
grant writing. We will also touch upon the 2016 NIH changes to the review process in which reviewers
are asked to search for evidence that an applicant has been responsive to the areas that NIH deems
important to enhancing rigor and reproducibility, the corresponding NIH recommendations for changes
to the format of the research plan, and the three key questions that reviewers are asked to consider
