Research E-Newsletter Call for Contributions

The OUHSC Office of the Vice President for Research would like to invite you to submit either

your work or that of your peers, staff, and/or students to be included in the quarterly research

e-newsletter.  The purpose of the e-newsletter is to provide information concerning the important

and exciting research and scholarly work being conducted by our OUHSC faculty, students, and


Please send a brief synopsis of the research that was conducted or published and any

accompanying figure/image/graph.  The deadline to submit information is Monday, February

12, 2018, to Samantha Skrepnek (  Information included in the

newsletter will be at the discretion of the Vice President for Research.

Categories of work to be highlighted may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Research Award Highlights (e.g., significant awards received);
  2. Research Achievement Highlights (e.g., important activities and achievements of OUHSC

faculty and others, news/appointments to prestigious leadership positions/committees);

  1. Research Publication Highlights (e.g., publications in top tier journals/books/reports);

"Clinical Trials"

Clinical trial-specific applications will soon include new review questions that focus on the rationale

and study design. This talk will cover clinical trial-specific review criteria, the NIH definition of a

clinical trial, the NIH tool to make the determination of whether a project is a clinical trial, and will

briefly discuss the ORA process.



The Office of Technology Development will offer the Innovation to Impact Series

Session 6 – “Post Graduate Venture Fellowship Program”  Topics to be discussed will be:  Explore

opportunities for research graduate students interested in a career in industry or entrepreneurship;

Hear from current Venture Fellow teams that are starting businesses around University IP; Learn

about program details, including selection, curriculum and goals.

This session will occur on January 31st from Noon- 1:00 pm in Biomedical Research Center Building,  

Room 103. Lunch will be provided.

National Cancer Institute - Specimen Resource Locator

The Specimen Resource Locator (SRL) is a biospecimen resource database designed to help

researchers locate resources that may have the samples needed for their investigational use.

This publicly searchable database includes information about biospecimen banks and sample

procurement services. The specimens and samples come from non-commercial, either NCI or

non-NCI-funded resources. Investigators can search the database and gain access to thousands

of specimens of various tumor, organ, and preservation methods.

Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) - Complete Conflict of Interest

(COI) form for your Project: Project teams are now required to complete and submit COI forms in

PCORI Online. After the PI completes the COI form in PCORI Online, the AO must approve the

form in order to submit to PCORI. A new COI form should be submitted between the 11th month and

the 12th month of each year of your project. For further instructions, please refer to pages 67-73 of

the Research Awards User Guide.

Note that this shift breaks with the PHS regulations where sponsor reporting is an Institutional
