The OUHSC Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) will begin its spring

2019 semiannual inspection cycle next month. Your animal procedure spaces, holding areas,

and satellite facilities will be visited as part of the IACUC’s on-going program for animal care

and use, as prescribed by the Public Health Service, the United States Department of Agriculture,

and AAALAC International. The goal of the IACUC’s review is to confirm that the current

standards of animal care and use are being maintained. Sound and compliant animal activities

benefit the entire university community, and support successful research outcomes.

**NOTE: This email has been sent to all personnel with a Topaz user account. If you do not

have an active animal use protocol or do not remove animals from any of the designated

animal facilities, please disregard this message.

If you are approved to bring live animals to a laboratory or other procedure area outside of the

designated animal facilities, be prepared for the IACUC to inspect those areas during the times

specified below. Please mark your calendars now, and advise laboratory staff of the scheduled

visit. It is critical that a knowledgeable representative of the lab be present during the IACUC

visit to escort the inspection team through your animal procedure areas and answer any questions.
