Bird Library Auditorium, LIB-299 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

This talk is designed to present a brief overview of the grant writing process and considerations

for new investigators or those new to grant writing. We will also touch upon ways to present

evidence that an applicant has been responsive to the areas that NIH deems important to

enhancing rigor and reproducibility, the corresponding NIH recommendations for the format

of the research plan, and the three key questions that reviewers are asked to consider when

reviewing grant applications.

Resources for Rigorous Research
Mike Lauer, MD, NIH Deputy Director for Extramural Research, describes new resources provided by

the NIH to facilitate rigorous research in an Open Mike blog post A revamped Rigor and Reproducibility

Webpage has been updated with new policies and new resources, none of which have new

requirements or forms. Additionally, past confusion about the meaning of “scientific premise” in grant

applications inspired the NIH to replace this term with “rigor of the prior research” under the Significance

section of most research grant and career development award applications for applications due on and

after January 25, 2019.

Oklahoma Center for Adult Stem Cell Research (OCASCR)

EXPANSION OF AREA OF FUNDING - Call for Applications – Due January 18, 2019

OCASCR has expanded the applications it will accept for funding to include, in addition to adult stem

cell research projects, research in regenerative medicine - a field that is closely related to adult stem

cell biology and that strives to restore the normal functions of cells, tissues, and organs that have

been damaged by disease.  For applications focused on regenerative medicine, those projects

related to diseases caused by smoking or obesity (i.e. cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, etc.)

will be prioritized.  Additional information on this Call for Applications and links to grant application

forms and instructions can be found at: http://www.ocascr.org/grants/

The Graduate College is now receiving applications for the 2019 Summer Undergraduate

Research Programs at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.  There are four

separate programs: the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE), the Native American

Research Centers for Health (NARCH), The Oklahoma IDeA Network of Biomedical Research

Excellence (OK-INBRE), and the Cancer Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) Summer

Programs. Again this year, approximately 60 students will be hosted in labs on the OUHSC campus

and across the OK-INBRE network. All participants will receive valuable research experience, be

given the chance to present their summer projects at a poster competition, and receive a generous

stipend.

The deadline to apply is February 5th, 2019.

The online application and additional information about these programs are on the SURP website,

below.

OK-INBRE Research Project Investigator (RPI) Program

Proposal deadline: February 22, 2019

Call for proposals:

https://okinbre.ouhsc.edu/Funding-Opportunities/Funding-Opportunities-for-OUHSC-and-OMRF

The Oklahoma IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (OK-INBRE) is requesting

applications for Research Project Investigator Awards (RPI).  The program seeks to support

proposals designed to generate preliminary data that enhances the competitiveness of the OUHSC/

OMRF investigators for future extramural funding.  The proposed project must align with one of the

biomedical research themes of the OK-INBRE program: Cancer, Developmental Biology or

Infectious Diseases.  The RPI project period is 2 ½ years in duration funded at $100,000 in direct

costs per year.  Selected projects will commence in May 2019.

ORAU-Directed Research and Development (ODRD) Program

The FY 2019 competition for collaborative awards of up to $75,000 to be shared between the

university and ORAU researchers is now open. We anticipate and expect that these seed funds

will position the collaborative teams to be more competitive for new, external funding opportunities.

The deadline for joint ORAU/university proposals is March 25, 2019 and potential university

partners are encouraged to submit concepts for discussion with ORAU partners as soon as possible.
