ORA News/Deadlines - September 18, 2017

The Office of Technology Development will offer the Innovation to Impact Series

Session 3 – “Patents 101 – First Do No Harm.” Topics to be discussed will be:  What is a Patent?;

How/why does a public disclosure affect patentability?; Types of public disclosures; How to publish

without hurting your patent rights; and Key milestones of the patent process.

This session will occur on September 27th from Noon- 1:00 pm in Biomedical Research Center

Building, Room 103. Lunch will be provided.

NIH Office of Disease Prevention:  Call for Nominations, Early-Stage investigator Lecture

NIH announces the 2018 call for nominations for the ODP Early-Stage Investigator Lecture.  The

award is made annually to an early-career scientist who has made significant research contributions

and is poised to become a leader in prevention research, but who has not yet successfully competed

for a substantial NIH-Supported research project.  The award winner will be invited with all travel

expenses covered, to give a lecture at the NIH on Monday, March 19, 2018.  The awardee will also

be offered an opportunity for professional networking with NIH program directors and scientists.

Research E-Newsletter Call for Contributions

The OUHSC Office of the Vice President for Research would like to invite you to submit either your

work or that of your peers, staff, and/or students to be included in the quarterly research e-newsletter. 

The purpose of the e-newsletter is to provide information concerning the important and exciting

research and scholarly work being conducted by our OUHSC faculty, students, and staff. 

Please send a brief synopsis of the research that was conducted or published between February 1,

2017 and August 31, 2017 and any accompanying figure/image/graph.  The deadline to submit

information is Tuesday, September 26, 2017, to Samantha Skrepnek (  

Information included in the newsletter will be at the discretion of the Vice President for Research.

Categories of work to be highlighted may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1.      Research Award Highlights (e.g., significant awards received);

2.      Research Achievement Highlights (e.g., important activities and achievements of OUHSC faculty

         and others, news/appointments to prestigious leadership positions/committees);

3.      Research Publication Highlights (e.g., publications in top tier journals/books/reports);

4.      New Research Faculty Introductions;

OU Growth Fund Application Now Available – Receive up to $75,000

The University of Oklahoma Office of Technology Development is now accepting applications for the

Growth Fund, which helps to strengthen the commercial potential of disclosed University of Oklahoma

innovations. The program’s purpose is to move inventions closer to the market, including providing for

prototypes, additional research results, and/or “gap” funding to keep a program in place during transition. 

Recipients from the OU Health Sciences Center can receive up to $75,000 in Growth Funds. The

Physical Stresses: Keeping Us Alive and Well, An Interdisciplinary Research Symposium

on Mechanotransduction -- CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The abstract submission deadline for the Symposium Physical Stresses: Keeping Us “Alive and Well” is

11:59 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2017.  The Symposium, funded in part by a PHF Symposium Grant,

will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018, at the College of Allied Health Building.  The Symposium will

consist of three keynote speakers, nine selected oral presentations, and a peer-reviewed poster session.

The abstract submission deadline for the HHDC 2017 Research Symposium is Friday, September 29th

Abstracts must be received by 5 p.m. HHDC 2017 Research Symposium will be held on Friday, November
