Ideating for team research in Health, Well-being and the Built Environment (Workshop 1 of 2)

One sentence summary of the event: This first of two interactive workshops will gather researchers from OU Norman and OU HSC to share their expertise and ideate around collaborative research projects in the area of health, well-being, and the built environment.

Description: Join CFE, along with Susan Sisson (Allied Health) and Angela Person (Gibbs College), in the first of two workshops to jump-start ideas for collaborative proposals related to health, well-being, and the built environment. Participation in both workshops is not required, but suggested.

During this session, OU researchers will share their expertise, learn about funding opportunities in the area of health, well-being, and the built environment, exchange ideas across disciplines and brainstorm collaborative proposals for an internal seed grant funding opportunity aimed at securing external funding in the future. Faculty from OU Norman and OU HSC are encouraged to attend to learn more.

One sentence summary of the event:  This second of two interactive workshops has OU Norman and OU HSC researchers pitch their collaborative research ideas and participate in activities to further trans-disciplinary aspects and align with funding opportunities in the area of health, well-being, and the built environment.

OUHSC Funding Opportunities

OSCTR TPIR Trainee Program

Seeking applicants for the ninth year of the research training program Translating Practice into Research (TPIR). TPIR is a program for healthcare professionals, clinical investigators, basic scientists, and community health professionals and it is funded by the NIH Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources grant. The goal of the TPIR trainee program is to produce a group of clinicians and scientists who have the ability to translate their clinical observations and ideas for improving practice into practical and feasible research projects. Attached is a detailed description and application due September 23, 2022.

Investigator Initiated Trials Funding Committee (IITFC), Clinical Trials Office-Protocol Support Unit

Description: Grant proposals are being accepted for the Fall cycle from Stephenson Cancer Center Providers for their investigator-initiated clinical trials (IITs) or translational work for the amount of up to $125,000 for clinical trials, and up to $25,000 for translation research. All applications should be submitted to the Protocol Support Unit at SCC-IIT-Office@ouhsc.edu and should adhere to the Submission Checklist provided with this notice.

Deadline: October 3, 2022 at 5 pm CST

Trainee Research Conference and Workshop Award
Description:
The Stephenson Cancer Center (SCC) is pleased to offer Research Conference and Workshop awards for participation in professional meetings and workshops. These awards are available to graduate students, professional students, and postdoctoral fellows at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) and University of Oklahoma (OU) main campus. This includes medical students, residents and fellows, as well as fulltime faculty who are currently enrolled in a graduate or professional degree program. The SCC intends to give up to 8 of these awards to cover meetings and conferences held between November 1, 2022 and April 30, 2023. See below for more information.
Financial Support: Up to $1000 will be awarded per applicant to support the registration fees, airfare, hotel and other related expenses. The above and other qualifying expenses will be reimbursed per the University of Oklahoma’s Travel Reimbursement policy.

How to Apply: Interested applicants should complete the Online Application Form and include all required application materials. Complete applications must be submitted on or before the following application deadlines:

  • September 18, 11:59 PM CST, for Winter/Spring Meetings or Workshops being held between November 1 and April 30.

We understand that trainees may not be aware of abstract acceptance and other details at by the above deadline. Please still apply. If awarded, trainee should update the Program Manager as details are known.

Office of Technology Commercialization presents the following opportunities for researchers to engage with industry (click here for more information, or email otc@ou.edu or gina-mcmillen@ouhsc.edu).  

  • ELI Lilly is seeking druggable targets for weight loss, in particular approaches focused on appetite modulation, energy expenditure and mechanisms synergistic with GLP-1.  All mechanisms and modalities are of interest as is drug repurposing.  Out of scope includes plant/food based approaches and probiotics/microbiome targeting (unless weight loss is robust). Submission entails a 1-pg non-confidential summary of technology with optional supplemental information.  (deadline 08/25).
  • A multinational restorative dentistry company is looking for novel 3D scanning technologies that can be applied to the oral environment, for use to improve methods for structured light scanning (i.e. improved speed, reduced costs, improved accuracy, and ease of use).  Technology should be able to achieve resolution in the 25-50 micron range and acquire color imaging.  Submission entails a 1-pg non-confidential summary of technology with optional supplemental information.  (deadline 09/02).

NOTE: When only one application is allowed per Institution according to the sponsor instructions, a one-page letter of intent summarizing the proposed project should be submitted to the Vice President for Research at least two months prior to the application deadline (unless otherwise noted).  The letters of intent will be reviewed and a single application will be chosen for submission from the University.

Call for Applicants for Searle Scholar

The Searle Scholar Program (https://searlescholars.org/)  has opened a 2023 award nomination.   The Searle Scholars Program supports high risk, high reward research across a broad range of scientific disciplines. Grants are $300,000 for a three-year term with $100,000 payable each year of the grant. The Searle Scholars Program is funded through the Searle Funds at The Chicago Community Trust and administered by Kinship Foundation.  Early tenure-track faculty are eligible to apply.  Clinicians can apply but must have substantial research.  They fund in all areas of research.

OUHSC can only submit one applicant. If you would like to be nominated, please send your CV, Biosketch, and a one-two page synopsis of your research areas of interest to Dr. Mary Beth Humphrey (marybeth-humphrey@ouhsc.edu) and Donna Emrick (donna-emrick@ouhsc.edu)  by 5pm on Sept 1, 2022.  A committee will review all applicants and select one to move forward.

 

OCAST - Oklahoma Health Research Program

Description: OCAST’s Oklahoma Health Research program funds basic research projects related to human health for one to three years at a maximum level of $45,000 per year. The awards enable researchers to gain the expertise and produce the data needed to obtain larger grants from federal agencies, private enterprises and non-profit funding organizations. All proposals are reviewed and ranked for funding by experienced health researchers who reside outside the state of Oklahoma. Peer reviewers evaluate applications for scientific merit based on the quality of the proposed research, qualifications of the principal investigator and appropriateness of the institutional facilities and use of the described project budget.

OCAST Oklahoma Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

Description: The Oklahoma Health Research program’s Postdoctoral Fellowship (Health Fellowship) Initiative funding is intended to improve the state’s health sciences R&D base by encouraging recent doctoral degree recipients to better prepare for scientific and technical-based careers in academia or high-tech companies in Oklahoma. OCAST fellowship funding acknowledges that the principal resources of the research institutions and companies are the people they employ, and this Initiative allows those entities to attract and/or retain the best candidates into established, successful health research facilities within Oklahoma.

OCAST - Intern Partnerships Program

Description: The purpose of the Student Intern Partnerships funding (Intern Award) is to improve the state’s innovation base by supporting internships in Oklahoma companies engaged in research, innovation development, or implementation of new technology, e.g., a manufacturing operation improving product or process through the implementation of new technology. The program encourages students to prepare for careers in scientific and technical fields as well as ancillary areas that support high-tech industry in Oklahoma.

Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) - 2022-2023 Request for Proposals

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - Clinical Research Award

Description: Clinical Research Awards are offered to provide support for investigator-initiated clinical research projects that have the potential to make an important contribution to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission. Research projects may address diagnosis, treatment, management of disease or symptom, or the pathophysiology of cystic fibrosis using clinical (observational/interventional), translational, or epidemiologic study approaches.
