Attention: State Contract Budget Planning

F&A (IDC) are real costs incurred by the department and the University in support of sponsored activities.  The funding

derived from F&A provides critical dollars necessary to support the operating expenses related to the space in which

the research is conducted, as well as the various services provided to the Principal Investigator and the college and

department for administering the grant (e.g., accounting, purchasing, human resources). Without appropriate recovery

of F&A costs, the University loses money and we must be fiscally responsible to our tax payers and students.  It is not

responsible stewardship to waive these costs.

Since this is the time of year when a lot of departments and faculty start their FY21 budget planning for their anticipated

state grants and contracts, we wanted to remind everyone that no F&A reduction or waiver requests will be approved

this year.  Please see this link for current F&A rates.

OK-INBRE Call for Mentors for the Summer Undergraduate Research Program

The OK-INBRE Summer Undergraduate Research Program exposes promising students to the exciting world of research

and acts as a mechanism for increasing the applicant pool for graduate programs in biomedical research at Oklahoma's

comprehensive campuses.

We are now seeking mentors for the summer of 2020.  Each selected student will receive a salary of $5,000 (subject to

taxes) to pay for living expenses over the summer (May 26 - July 21, 2020). In addition, each Mentor's laboratory will

receive $2,200 for supplies. Each student will present a scientific poster of their summer research project at the end

of the program.

The cost of preparing the poster is to be covered by the aforementioned $2,200 allocation for supplies.

If you are interested in serving as a faculty mentor, please complete the online application form located at by January 15th, 2020. Applications from

prospective faculty mentors at both the research-intensive institutions and Oklahoma regional universities are strongly

encouraged. Applications from current and former COBRE Investigators at OUHSC and OMRF are also strongly

encouraged. If you are matched with a student, you will be contacted by the SURP Staff.

The NCI Early K99/R00 program is designed to suit the career paths of postdoctoral fellows pursuing careers in Data Science

and Cancer Control Science, who typically require only a short period of mentored research training beyond their doctoral

degrees before obtaining independent faculty positions. Postdoctoral fellows in other areas of NCI-supported research are

encouraged to apply to the NIH Parent K99/R00 program (PA-19-129 and PA-19-130 ).

The Early K99/R00 differs from the NIH Parent K99/R00 program in that:

  • Applicants may have no more than 2 years of postdoctoral research experience by the

application due date (February 26, 2020);

  • A nomination letter is required;
  • Preliminary data are NOT required; and
  • Institutions may submit a combined total of up to three applications per due date, inclusive of both RFAs: one for

Data Science, one for Cancer Control Science, and/or one for “Other Sciences” as defined in Section III, Part 3 of

the RFAs. An application should be submitted to the appropriate RFA (Clinical Trials Required or Clinical Trials

Not Allowed).
