NIH Adoption of the Common Forms for the Biographical Sketch and Other Support and a New Required NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement for the Personal Statement, Contributions to Science, and Honors
Overview
To provide clarity regarding disclosure requirements and greater standardization across research agencies, NIH is adopting the Biographical Sketch Common Form and the Current and Pending (Other) Support Common Forms for application due dates and progress report submissions on or after May 25, 2025. The
Common Forms will replace the current Biographical Sketch and Other Support forms. In addition to the Common Forms, a new NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement will be required to collect the Personal Statement, Contributions to Science, and Honors.
Failure to use the required forms or format pages may cause NIH to withdraw your application from consideration.
What To Do Now
-
Familiarize yourself with Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv). You will be required to use
SciENcv to complete Common Forms, i.e., Biographical Sketch, Current and Pending (Other) Support, to produce digitally certified PDF(s) for use in application submission.
Please note: A delegate cannot certify a document on behalf of senior/key personnel.A delegate also cannot generate and download a PDF file that has not yet been certified. While a delegate may create/edit the common forms, senior/key personnel must log in to SciENcv and certify each document.Once certified, the delegate may download the PDF file.
Additional Information
Please review the
NIH Notice NOT-OD-24-163 for complete information on the upcoming changes, including availability of Commons Forms for NIH and links to Resources.Additional guidance and training will be forthcoming from the NIH and the OUHSC Office of Research Administration.
For application/progress report due dates before May 25, 2025
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
NIH requires submission of a biosketch for each proposed senior/key personnel and other significant contributor on a grant application. Some funding opportunities or programs may also request biosketches for additional personnel (e.g., Participating Faculty Biosketch attachment for institutional training awards).
Please see the current NIH guidance on the biosketch format page, instructions and samples at:
OTHER SUPPORT
Please note that NIH requires PIs and senior/key personnel to electronically certify that their Other Support information is true, complete and accurate to the best of their knowledge. ORA’s preferred electronic signatures for Other Support forms are Adobe Sign or DocuSign. If other electronic signatures are used, they must be verified signatures with a digital ID.
Each senior/key personnel must electronically sign their respective NIH Other Support form. The version with the original electronic signature will need to be retained by the department, to be made available to NIH and/or ORA upon request. ORA will only keep the final flattened versions on file as part of the submission package and cannot serve as the central repository for the original signed copies of the Other Support.
