The OUHSC DSAF can provide the required capabilities in drug molecular synthesis and analysis to advance potential drug lead compounds. The DSAF is centered in the Burgett research group located in the Department of Pharmaceutical Science. Dr. Burgett has ~20 years of experience in the synthesis, analysis, and drug development of biologically-active compounds. The DSAC possess the equipment and expertise to make, modify, and advance small molecule compounds in drug development.
Description of OUHSC Drug Synthesis and Capabilities:
Laboratory Setup and Equipment: The DSAF is located in chemistry laboratory space in the OUHSC College of Pharmacy building, providing the needed fume hoods and other infrastructure. Chemical reactions are routinely performed, and the products are purified to analytical purity and subjected to molecular characterization. The DSAF equipment for the chemical reactions includes all needed glassware, solvents, drying ovens, dry boxes, various chemical reagents, and a dry nitrogen generator to run chemical reactions free of oxygen and trace water. Equipment includes a rotorary evaporator system, high vacuum pumps, and several chromatography/purification systems, including glass pressure chromatography systems, a low pressure Biotage automated column chromatography system, and a high performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS system). The Shimazu LC2020 HPLC-MS system is capable of preparative scale purification of final compounds and low resolution MS analysis. A 500 mHZ JEOL NMR system with autosampler, is present in the DSAC to provide all NMR analysis required (1H, 13C, 15N, etc.). Additionally molecular analysis, including high resolution MS, X-ray crystallography, and IR, is available through existing DSAF collaborations at OU-Norman campus.
