NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS – Funding to complete the Master of Science degree

in Clinical and Translational Sciences

Now seeking applications for the NIMHD-funded research training and career development program.

The goal of the program is to facilitate the education of participants from diverse backgrounds under-

represented in biomedical research to pursue clinical research or population health research on

diseases that disproportionately impact minority and rural populations in Oklahoma.

The program provides two years of partial salary and research support to complete the Master of

Science degree in Clinical and Translational Sciences (MS in CTS) that is administered through the

OUHSC Graduate College.  To be eligible, applicants must hold a clinical doctoral degree or PhD, be

from a group underrepresented in biomedical research (racial and ethnic groups that have been shown

by the National Science Foundation to be underrepresented in biomedical research or individuals with

disabilities), be within seven years of their first faculty appointment, AND plan to pursue a research

career focused on minority health or health disparities research.  The 2-year program covers 50%

protected time (salary+fringe), tuition and fees for the MS in CTS degree program, travel to professional

meetings, and modest research funds. Applications are due 5/1/19

Program and eligibility information is attached.  Application materials can be found at:

please contact Julie Stoner, PhD (julie-stoner@ouhsc.edu).

NIH Increased System Enforcement of Filename Rules

The Format Attachment guidance on the How to Apply-Application Guide

(https://grants.nih.gov/grants/how-to-apply-application-guide.html) page has included the same rules

for filenames for many years. Filenames used for grant application attachments must be

  • descriptive;
  • unique within an application (or within a component of a multi-project application);
  • comprised of the following characters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, underscore, hyphen, space, period,

parenthesis, curly braces, square brackets, tilde, exclamation point, comma, semi colon,

apostrophe, at sign, number sign, dollar sign, percent sign, plus sign, and equal sign; and

  • 50 characters or less (including spaces).

eRA systems now enforce the 50-character limit for filenames used for attachments in grant applications.

As a point of reference … This is 50 characters with spaces and punctuation. You can convey a surprising

amount of information in 50 characters, but maybe not as much as you want. For example, “consortium-

contractual-arrangements-institution-pi-name” is over the limit and its use would result in an error.

The new validation will be part of the business rules checked by ASSIST and other solutions that use the

validation service pre-submission. If you think you might be pushing the 50-character limit, run a quick

Validate Application (if using ASSIST), Preview Grantor Validation (if using Workspace), or whatever your

system-to-system solution calls it and make any necessary adjustments. If the long filename isn’t caught

prior to submission, you know we’ll catch it after submission.

No one wants to be left scrambling to rename and reattach files at the last minute.
