NIH Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Administrative Supplements to Recognize Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Mentorship
Description: The participating NIH Institutes and Centers will supplement the existing awards of scientists who have demonstrated a commitment to exceptional training and mentorship, especially to individuals from groups identified as underrepresented in the biomedical sciences.
Supplements are available for various grant types, including career development, training, cooperative, and Research Project Grants (R01). They will provide up to $250,000 in direct costs, not to exceed the direct costs of the parent award. Investigators may use the funds to perform additional research within the parent grant’s scope, develop curricula or training activities to strengthen mentor training, or help foster the research career development of additional students, post-doctorates, or other trainees.

NIH Salary Cap for FY 2022: NIH recently issued guidance on salary limitation for grants and cooperative agreements issued on or after January 2, 2022. Please see the notice for more details: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-22-076.html. The maximum salary cap has increased from $199,300 to $203,700 and is applicable to all other Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Agencies. Please begin using the updated salary cap in your NIH proposal budgets.
Security Assessment Requirement Changes
Study-provided Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems no longer require an IT Security Assessment. The items listed below, may still require a Security Assessment, prior to purchase or renewal:
- IT Services and Systems interacting with regulated data (ePHI, PCI, FERPA, GLBA, PII, or CUI).
- All Third Party technology providers.
- IT Services and Systems that are Mission-Critical to a College, University, Department, or Research Project.
- Cloud, network, or removable storage devices.
- Medical devices.
If you have open assessment requests for EDC systems, OU IT GRC will reach out to you and confirm the assessment is no longer needed. The IRB will continue to review study protocols and let you know if a security assessment is needed for technology usage. NIH FORMS-G Grant Application Forms & Instructions Must Be Used for Due Dates on or after January 25, 2022

This Notice reminds the applicant and recipient community that applicants must use FORMS-G application packages for due dates on or after January 25, 2022 and must use FORMS-F application packages for due dates on or before January 24, 2022 (see NOT-OD-21-169 for details).

2022 Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Research Conference
2022 CF Foundation Research Conference will be held June 26 – 30, 2022. This conference is directed towards basic and clinical researchers and trainees and industry representatives with a goal of bridging advances in basic discovery with therapeutic development. The conference agenda will cover a broad array of topics with a mix of invited speakers and abstract presentations. To foster a highly interactive environment, attendance will be limited. Description: The University of Oklahoma Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Technology (IBEST) in partnership with the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) invites faculty who are members of Norman Campus and OUHSC to submit applications for grant funding to support research activities in the areas of healthcare, in particular to promote the integration of engineering principles and innovations with both applied and fundamental medical and clinical research, as well as to facilitate the creation of multi-disciplinary teams. Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources Clinical and Translational Research Pilot (CTRP) Grants Call for Proposals 2022
Description: The purpose of the program is to provide funding for collaborative and/or multi-disciplinary clinical and translational pilot projects between investigators of the OSCTR member institutions. The program seeks to support proposals designed to generate preliminary data that will result in improved health and/or healthcare for citizens of Oklahoma and other IDeA states and enhance the competitiveness of the investigators for future extramural funding. The program also seeks to fund innovative concepts, approaches, and methodologies that bring fresh new ideas to solving the health issues of those living in Oklahoma and collaborating IDeA states. Projects that focus on the medically underserved and on health concerns prevalent within Oklahoma and our OSCTR partners will be a priority. Only projects which meet the NIH definition of clinical and/or translational research will be accepted. Approved CTRP grants will be funded for a period starting July 1, 2022 contingent on NIH approval of just in time (JIT) information. All funds are required to be expended by June 30, 2023.

Description: The purpose of the pilot project grant program is to provide seed funding to generate preliminary data for an extramural research grant application. Description: Harrington Discovery Institute at University Hospitals is now accepting Letters of Intent for the 2023 Harrington Scholar-Innovator Award for physician-scientists. Summer Research Training for Junior Faculty from Diverse Backgrounds
Description: The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute seeks pre-applications for its Programs to Increase Diversity Among Individuals Engaged in Health Related Research (PRIDE) initiative. PRIDE offers hands-on, mentored research lab experiences, small project awards for pilot research, and grant writing courses for junior faculty and transitioning post-doctoral candidates from diverse backgrounds. The goal is to increase diversity in the biomedical research workforce while enabling early career investigators to become competitive independent scientists.
Chosen applicants will have their training expenses fully covered for two consecutive summers. Training takes place at nine NHLBI-funded sites across the country, and each program is centered on a different area of heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders research:

The American Heart Association (AHA) Health Equity Research Network (HERN) on Disparities in Maternal-Infant Health Outcomes
Description: The American Heart Association (AHA) has committed $20 million to establish this Health Equity Research Network, which provides an opportunity to significantly advance our understanding of the factors underlying the disproportionate impact of maternal mortality and morbidity on Black women, Native American women, and those living in rural areas. Because heart and vascular issues account for about half of these deaths, the AHA is uniquely positioned to address this critical issue.

Chan Zuckerberg Initiative - Scaling the CZ Biohub model to pursue the toughest and most important scientific challenges.
Description: A central goal of the CZ Biohub Network is to promote collaboration across disciplines and among institutions. To facilitate such collaboration, applications must be submitted jointly from at least three universities and/or other research institutions within the same city or geographic area. We expect that the next CZ Biohub will receive a 10-year funding commitment in the range of $200–250 million.

Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health
Description: The goal of the Pilot Projects Research Training Program is to enhance Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) regional outreach efforts in research training and to foster stronger inter-institutional ties in occupational health research within Public Health Region 6 (PHR 6) (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas). The objective of this program is to provide a support mechanism for pilot research projects initiated by:
- Research Trainee Awards: Graduate doctoral students or postdoctoral fellows in an occupational health and safety-related discipline.
- Junior Investigator Awards: New investigators with research interests in the general area of occupational health and safety. Junior investigators are defined as faculty who have not served as PI on any Public Health Service (PHS)-supported research grants other than a R03, R15, R21, K01, K08, or K12.
- New Researcher Awards: Researcher or Faculty in areas other than occupational health research who wish to apply their expertise to an occupational safety and health issue.

The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) - POLICY AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT CHANGE & INNOVATIONS IN ACTIVE LIVING AND HEALTHY EATING
Description: To identify and respond to emerging opportunities to transform and improve the health of
Oklahomans, TSET will accept unsolicited proposals in two areas of emphasis. Proposals must identify immediate, impactful opportunities to positively transform and improve the health of Oklahomans. Proposals must be project-driven, time-limited, have a specific targeted area or population in mind, be supported by multiple partners, and agree to participate in an external evaluation of the project.
Unsolicited proposals are accepted for projects related to the following areas identified as priorities by the TSET Board of Directors:
- Policy and built environment change: up to $350,000 per project per year for up to two years
- Innovations in active living and healthy eating: up to $250,000 per project per year for up to two years

NIH technology accelerator challenge for maternal health
Description: The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), with the support of its partners, is offering up to $1,000,000 in cash prizes for innovative diagnostic technologies to help improve maternal health around the world.
The NIH Technology Accelerator Challenge for Maternal Health (NTAC: Maternal Health) seeks to spur and reward the development of prototypes for low-cost, point-of-care molecular, cellular, and/or metabolic sensing and diagnostic technologies to guide rapid clinical decision-making, improve patient outcomes, and ultimately prevent maternal morbidity and mortality.
To win NTAC: Maternal Health, participants must: (1) Submit their design for a point-of-care diagnostic test or platform technology with initial feasibility data or references addressing at least two of the four priority conditions listed below affecting maternal health during antenatal and intrapartum periods; and (2) Submit a robust description of the proposed path for translation and further development of the diagnostic technology for use in global health settings. Additionally, diagnostics should be fully integrated digital health platforms. The four priority conditions and specific examples are as follows:
- Infection: viral, bacterial, or parasitic infections; sepsis; post-procedural infections
- Hypertensive disease: pre-eclampsia; eclampsia
- Hemorrhage: acute anemia; iron deficiency anemia; coagulopathy
- Placental issues: angiogenic or other markers of placental disruption

Telligen Community Initiative (TCI) philanthropy - 2022 REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
Description: Grants of up to $50,000 to Illinois, Iowa, Colorado, and Oklahoma nonprofits, schools, and agencies for programs that support creative ways to bring innovation and equity to the health sector and recruiting and generating pathways to a high-quality health care workforce. Programs can also emphasize novel approaches to positively address the social determinants of health.
All current TCI grants are for periods of one year. Cycle 1 awardees (OK or CO) begin on June 1, 2022.

The International Foundation for Ethical Research (IFER) – 2022-2023 GRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS FOR ALTERNATIVES TO THE USE OF ANIMALS IN SCIENCE
Description: IFER Graduate Fellowships are one-year grants for projects that support the development, acceptance and implementation of innovative scientific methodologies that advance science and refine, reduce or replace the use of animals in research, testing or education. Grants of $12,500 are typically awarded and are renewable annually for up to three years, depending on student progress and availability of funds. IFER recognizes the value in directing financial resources away from animal models and toward the development of human-relevant, non-animal models, as such resources pay higher dividends for human health when used for human-relevant research.

Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) Dermatology Fellowship & Junior Faculty Awards
Description: The aim of this training program is to drive greater interest and focus on melanoma in dermatologic clinical practice and research related to the prevention, detection, diagnosis, and staging of melanoma.
- MRA Dermatology Fellows Award – Supports dermatology residents, fellows, or post-docs in a dermatology program with research, and/or demonstration and pilot programs focused on melanoma prevention or improving early detection, diagnosis, or prognosis.
- MRA Dermatology Junior Faculty/Clinical Instructor Award - Supports new dermatology faculty (clinical instructors or new assistant professors) working in research on melanoma prevention or improving early detection, diagnosis, or prognosis.

Description: The Additional Ventures Catalyst to Independence Award (AVCIA) is a research award that supports exceptional early career scientists during the final years of a mentored postdoctoral research position (Level I), through the transition to an independent faculty position (Level II). The AVCIA is primarily for investigators pursuing research relevant to single ventricle heart disease, including genetics, basic cardiovascular development, tissue engineering, computational modeling, and other relevant areas.
