OUHSC GeroScience T32 is accepting applications for Post-Doctoral Fellows & Graduate Students to Appoint May 1st, 2022

Purpose: Goal of the GeroScience T32 is to offer training and mentorship to young investigators, both Graduate Students and Post-Doctoral Fellows interested in aging research and assist them in securing independent funding. Current trainees must reapply.

Investigator Initiated Trials Funding Committee (IITFC), Clinical Trials Office-Protocol Support Unit

Description: Grant proposals are being accepted from Stephenson Cancer Center Providers for their investigator-initiated clinical trials (IITs) or translational work for the amount of up to $100,000 for IITs and up to $25,000 for translation research. College of Medicine Alumni Association (COMAA) Research Program

Summer Research Training for Junior Faculty from Diverse Backgrounds

Description: The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute seeks pre-applications for its Programs to Increase Diversity Among Individuals Engaged in Health Related Research (PRIDE) initiative. PRIDE offers hands-on, mentored research lab experiences, small project awards for pilot research, and grant writing courses for junior faculty and transitioning post-doctoral candidates from diverse backgrounds. The goal is to increase diversity in the biomedical research workforce while enabling early career investigators to become competitive independent scientists.

HHS/CDC (Forecasted) Building Mathematical Modeling Workforce Capacity to Support Infectious Disease and Healthcare Research 

Description: The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity is to support pre-doctoral fellows’ innovative research to develop and apply computational tools and mathematical methods for modeling the spread of pathogens in healthcare settings (e.g., SARS-CoV-2, healthcare-associated infections [HAIs], antimicrobial resistant organisms [AROs]). Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health Pilot Projects Research Training Program

Description: The goal of the Pilot Projects Research Training Program is to enhance Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) regional outreach efforts in research training and to foster stronger inter-institutional ties in occupational health research within Public Health Region 6 (PHR 6) (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas). The objective of this program is to provide a support mechanism for pilot research projects initiated by:

  • Research Trainee Awards: Graduate doctoral students or postdoctoral fellows in an occupational health and safety-related discipline.
  • Junior Investigator Awards: New investigators with research interests in the general area of occupational health and safety. NIH technology accelerator challenge for maternal health

Description: The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), with the support of its partners, is offering up to $1,000,000 in cash prizes for innovative diagnostic technologies to help improve maternal health around the world.

The NIH Technology Accelerator Challenge for Maternal Health (NTAC: Maternal Health) seeks to spur and reward the development of prototypes for low-cost, point-of-care molecular, cellular, and/or metabolic sensing and diagnostic technologies to guide rapid clinical decision-making, improve patient outcomes, and ultimately prevent maternal morbidity and mortality.

To win NTAC: Maternal Health, participants must: (1) Submit their design for a point-of-care diagnostic test or platform technology with initial feasibility data or references addressing at least two of the four priority conditions listed below affecting maternal health during antenatal and intrapartum periods; and (2) Submit a robust description of the proposed path for translation and further development of the diagnostic technology for use in global health settings. Additionally, diagnostics should be fully integrated digital health platforms. The four priority conditions and specific examples are as follows:

  • Infection: viral, bacterial, or parasitic infections; sepsis; post-procedural infections
  • Hypertensive disease: pre-eclampsia; eclampsia
  • Hemorrhage: acute anemia; iron deficiency anemia; coagulopathy
  • Placental issues: angiogenic or other markers of placental disruption

The International Foundation for Ethical Research (IFER) – 2022-2023 GRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS FOR ALTERNATIVES TO THE USE OF ANIMALS IN SCIENCE

Description: IFER Graduate Fellowships are one-year grants for projects that support the development, acceptance and implementation of innovative scientific methodologies that advance science and refine, reduce or replace the use of animals in research, testing or education. Grants of $12,500 are typically awarded and are renewable annually for up to three years, depending on student progress and availability of funds. IFER recognizes the value in directing financial resources away from animal models and toward the development of human-relevant, non-animal models, as such resources pay higher dividends for human health when used for human-relevant research.
