Ideating for team research in Health, Well-being and the Built Environment (Workshop 1 of 2)

One sentence summary of the event: This first of two interactive workshops will gather researchers from OU Norman and OU HSC to share their expertise and ideate around collaborative research projects in the area of health, well-being, and the built environment.
Description: Join CFE, along with Susan Sisson (Allied Health) and Angela Person (Gibbs College), in the first of two workshops to jump-start ideas for collaborative proposals related to health, well-being, and the built environment. Participation in both workshops is not required, but suggested.
During this session, OU researchers will share their expertise, learn about funding opportunities in the area of health, well-being, and the built environment, exchange ideas across disciplines and brainstorm collaborative proposals for an internal seed grant funding opportunity aimed at securing external funding in the future. Faculty from OU Norman and OU HSC are encouraged to attend to learn more.

One sentence summary of the event: This second of two interactive workshops has OU Norman and OU HSC researchers pitch their collaborative research ideas and participate in activities to further trans-disciplinary aspects and align with funding opportunities in the area of health, well-being, and the built environment.

OUHSC Funding Opportunities
OSCTR TPIR Trainee Program
Seeking applicants for the ninth year of the research training program Translating Practice into Research (TPIR). TPIR is a program for healthcare professionals, clinical investigators, basic scientists, and community health professionals and it is funded by the NIH Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources grant. The goal of the TPIR trainee program is to produce a group of clinicians and scientists who have the ability to translate their clinical observations and ideas for improving practice into practical and feasible research projects. Attached is a detailed description.

Trainee Research Conference and Workshop Award
Description: The Stephenson Cancer Center (SCC) is pleased to offer Research Conference and Workshop awards for participation in professional meetings and workshops. These awards are available to graduate students, professional students, and postdoctoral fellows at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) and University of Oklahoma (OU) main campus. This includes medical students, residents and fellows, as well as fulltime faculty who are currently enrolled in a graduate or professional degree program. The SCC intends to give up to 8 of these awards to cover meetings and conferences held between November 1, 2022 and April 30, 2023. See below for more information.
Financial Support: Up to $1000 will be awarded per applicant to support the registration fees, airfare, hotel and other related expenses. The above and other qualifying expenses will be reimbursed per the University of Oklahoma’s Travel Reimbursement policy.
How to Apply: Interested applicants should complete the Online Application Form and include all required application materials. Complete applications must be submitted on or before the following application deadlines:
- September 18, 11:59 PM CST, for Winter/Spring Meetings or Workshops being held between November 1 and April 30.
We understand that trainees may not be aware of abstract acceptance and other details at by the above deadline. Please still apply. If awarded, trainee should update the Program Manager as details are known.

OCAST - Oklahoma Health Research Program
Description: OCAST’s Oklahoma Health Research program funds basic research projects related to human health for one to three years at a maximum level of $45,000 per year. The awards enable researchers to gain the expertise and produce the data needed to obtain larger grants from federal agencies, private enterprises and non-profit funding organizations. All proposals are reviewed and ranked for funding by experienced health researchers who reside outside the state of Oklahoma. Peer reviewers evaluate applications for scientific merit based on the quality of the proposed research, qualifications of the principal investigator and appropriateness of the institutional facilities and use of the described project budget.

OCAST Oklahoma Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
Description: The Oklahoma Health Research program’s Postdoctoral Fellowship (Health Fellowship) Initiative funding is intended to improve the state’s health sciences R&D base by encouraging recent doctoral degree recipients to better prepare for scientific and technical-based careers in academia or high-tech companies in Oklahoma. OCAST fellowship funding acknowledges that the principal resources of the research institutions and companies are the people they employ, and this Initiative allows those entities to attract and/or retain the best candidates into established, successful health research facilities within Oklahoma.

Description: The purpose of the Student Intern Partnerships funding (Intern Award) is to improve the state’s innovation base by supporting internships in Oklahoma companies engaged in research, innovation development, or implementation of new technology, e.g., a manufacturing operation improving product or process through the implementation of new technology. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - Clinical Research Award
Description: Clinical Research Awards are offered to provide support for investigator-initiated clinical research projects that have the potential to make an important contribution to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission. Research projects may address diagnosis, treatment, management of disease or symptom, or the pathophysiology of cystic fibrosis using clinical (observational/interventional), translational, or epidemiologic study approaches.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - Clinical Pilot and Feasibility Award
Description: Clinical Pilot and Feasibility Awards are offered to support projects involving human subjects that will develop and test new hypotheses and/or new methods (or those being applied to the problems of cystic fibrosis for the first time), and to support promising new investigators as they establish themselves in research areas relevant to cystic fibrosis. The intent of these awards is to enable investigators to collect sufficient preliminary data to determine the best strategies and methods for approaching a major question that ultimately will require assessment through a larger-scale research and/or multi-center, collaborative trial.

The International Center for Responsible Gaming - ICRG Center of Excellence for Gambling Research
Description: The purpose of this funding opportunity is to advance development, implementation and validation of interventions to minimize gambling-related harm through responsible gambling programs. The ICRG is especially interested in understanding and addressing the low usage of responsible gambling tools. Applicants may request up to $402,500 for a three-year grant.

HRSA Geriatrics Academic Career Award (GACA) Program
Description: The purpose of the GACA program is to support the career development of junior faculty as academic geriatricians or academic geriatrics specialists.
The goals of the program are for the GACA candidate to: a) develop the necessary knowledge and skills to lead health care transformation in a variety of settings, including rural and/or medically underserved settings, b) be age-friendly, and c) provide training in clinical geriatrics, including the training of interprofessional teams of healthcare professionals to provide healthcare for older adults.
