Workshops and Seminars
Speaker: Edward Rouadles, Associate Professor, Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics, California State University--Chico
Title: BridgeStan for research
Abstract: Built on the shoulders of the statistical computing platform Stan, BridgeStan offers researchers a suite of tools common to computational statistics research. This talk will introduce Stan, BridgeStan, and just enough statistics to showcase how and why BridgeStan can help researchers develop statistical algorithms. Using Python, we will demonstrate how BridgeStan ties Stan's C++ into more commonly used programming languages, like Python, R, and Julia.
Introduction to BASH and Bioinformatics Workshop
OK-INBRE (Oklahoma Idea Network of Biomedical Research Excellence) and Institutional Research Core Facility are offering a free workshop on how to use BASH and its use in bioinformatics. OUHSC based students, postdocs, faculty, and staff are welcome!
The Unix/Linux shell, also known as the command shell or terminal, is a robust tool in computing, enabling users to merge existing programs and automate repetitive tasks. It is also key to accessing other computing resources such as supercomputers and remote resources. We will learn how to remotely connect to the OU SUPERCOMPUTING CENTER FOR EDUCATION & RESEARCH (OSCER), and use BASH to communicate with the computer. We will also learn about sequencing technologies and run a job on OSCER to conduct bioinformatics analysis of sequencing reads.
This is a beginner-level workshop for researchers, no prior experience is needed (i.e. no prerequisites). Registration is required. Find out more and sign up
here.
OUHSC Funding Opportunities
Geroscience T32 Positions Available – Post-doctoral Fellows
The Gerosciences T32 NIH training program has been funded since 2017 and currently supports three post-doctoral fellows and 5 graduate students with research interests in the field of geroscience. The goal of the program is to offer training and mentorship to young investigators to significantly advance their careers. The program focuses on the interaction between biological aging and disease. For additional information please refer to the attached document.
NOTE: When only one application is allowed per Institution according to the sponsor instructions, a one-page letter of intent summarizing the proposed project should be submitted to the Vice President for Research at least two months prior to the application deadline (unless otherwise noted). The letters of intent will be reviewed and a single application will be chosen for submission from the University.
