UPCOMING ORA/GCA/Purchasing Workshop -- Save the date and Take the Survey!

Ever wondered who we are and what we do?

Ever needed help with a grant submission?

Not quite sure how to support your faculty with their grants and contracts?

Are you struggling with a human subjects section of your proposal?

Are budget and compliance questions keeping you from your real job?

Finally the moment you’ve been waiting for….

We are pleased to announce a joint workshop, “The OUHSC World of Grants & Contracts” for

faculty and staff.  This workshop will offer a one-day training on sponsored research topics.

The information will be provided in a variety of formats ranging from talks to breakout sessions

with experts sitting at tables eager to answer all your questions.

WHEN:  January 8 and 10 (same topics on both days with morning and afternoon sessions

switched in case one time of day is better than another)

We want to make sure that the topics match your interests and requirements.  To do so, we

are asking that you participate in a very short (less than 5 minutes) online survey.   Please

write in any other topics or specifics that you would like to learn more about.

Survey Link:  https://ouhsc.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_7VypfxPg6injPo1

If you’d like to provide even more detailed feedback or specifics, feel free to send an email

to hscora@ouhsc.edu

After the results are in, we will send out a detailed agenda to the campus.  We look forward

to seeing you at the workshop!

The University has recently seen an increase in contracts for services with foreign

countries.  A foreign tax implication can arise from one of three instances: a foreign company

paying for services in a foreign country, a foreign company paying for services in the US or a

domestic company paying for services provided in a foreign country.  Any contract with a foreign

entity or that includes services being performed in a foreign country must be reviewed for potential

tax implications.  The University will perform a preliminary review to identify potential tax implications,

but all income tax and value added tax (VAT) filings must be performed through Financial Services

with the assistance of international tax consultants Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG).

Depending on the complexity of the tax laws involved, the University may also require KPMG’s

assistance in determining if there is a tax implication.  The cost for all KPMG tax services are roughly

$400 per hour.  The cost of the services provided by KPMG will be charged to the contract/

department for which the services are provided.  Please contact BJ Loving or Tamara Franklin in

Financial Services if you have any additional questions.

The Graduate College is now receiving applications for the 2019 Summer Undergraduate

Research Programs at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.  There are four

separate programs: the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE), the Native American

Research Centers for Health (NARCH), The Oklahoma IDeA Network of Biomedical Research

Excellence (OK-INBRE), and the Cancer Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) Summer

Programs. Again this year, approximately 60 students will be hosted in labs on the OUHSC campus

and across the OK-INBRE network. All participants will receive valuable research experience, be

given the chance to present their summer projects at a poster competition, and receive a generous

stipend.

The deadline to apply is February 5th, 2019.

The online application and additional information about these programs are on the SURP website,

below.

OK-INBRE Research Project Investigator (RPI) Program

Proposal deadline: February 22, 2019

Call for proposals:

https://okinbre.ouhsc.edu/Funding-Opportunities/Funding-Opportunities-for-OUHSC-and-OMRF

The Oklahoma IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (OK-INBRE) is requesting

applications for Research Project Investigator Awards (RPI).  The program seeks to support

proposals designed to generate preliminary data that enhances the competitiveness of the

OUHSC/OMRF investigators for future extramural funding.  The proposed project must align

with one of the biomedical research themes of the OK-INBRE program: Cancer, Developmental

Biology or Infectious Diseases.  The RPI project period is 2 ½ years in duration funded at $100,000

in direct costs per year.  Selected projects will commence in May 2019.
