ORA Research News - Monday, October 14, 2019

Save the Date!   Don’t miss out!  The second annual ORA/GCA/Purchasing Workshop is scheduled for

January 9th and January 10th.  We are pleased to announce a joint workshop, “The OUHSC World of Grants & Contracts”

for faculty and staff.  This workshop will offer a one-day training on sponsored research topics.  The sessions are the

same for both days, just different times.  The information will be provided in a variety of formats ranging from talks to

breakout sessions with experts sitting at tables eager to answer all your questions.

 

 

The OCAST 2019 Health Research Conference will be held on Wednesday, October 16th, 2019 from 2:30 to

4:30 p.m. at the Samis Education Center, located at 1200 Children’s Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73104.  All Principal

Investigators with an active or recently completed OCAST Health Research award are contractually required to

attend this conference.   Please note that PIs are no longer required to bring posters to this conference. Instead, PIs

will submit to OCAST via email a single Lay Research Summary Slide as a PowerPoint file. If you submitted a slide

about your project last year, please be sure to include 2 or 3 bulleted sentences that summarize, in lay language, the

recent project accomplishments, findings, or activities.

Please note that the slide, either in whole or in part, may be posted on an OCAST-managed website and/or social media

channel as an important approach to educating the public, building public support for research funding, exposing the

investment community and large corporations to new technologies, and encouraging collaboration. The slides provided

by Health Research PIs may be incorporated in the Health Research Conference program booklet, which will be sent

out electronically to all attendees prior to the conference.

The Office of Technology Development will offer the Innovation to Impact Series Session 3 “Copyright,

Trademark & Open Source.” Learn: 1) not all intellectual property is patentable; 2) filing for copyrights and trademarks;

3) protecting your software application and 4) examples of licensing non-traditional IP. Andrew Pollock, Interim Exec.

Director of OTD will be presenting.  This session will occur on October  29th  from Noon- 1:00 pm in Biomedical

The Southern Plains Tribal Health Board, the Oklahoma delegation from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Tribal Advisory Committee, and the All of Us Research Program are hosting a listening session on Tuesday, October 22,

2019 in Oklahoma City, OK. The All of Us Research Program, part of NIH, has a simple mission: to speed up health

research breakthroughs and help foster an era of precision medicine for all.

What: The goals for this listening session are to:

  • Have All of Us share information about the program, and
  • Give Tribes, urban Indian organizations, and researchers the opportunity to ask questions and provide input

on how All of Us should include AI/AN populations in the research program.

Harold Hamm Diabetes Center (HHDC) Research Symposium CALL FOR ABSTRACTS – Deadline Extended!

The 2019 HHDC Research Symposium will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Samis Education Center in

OUHSC IRB Informed Consent Template Version Updated

The HRPP has updated the version number and date of the consent template to 701-A, effective 9/10/2019.  The update

is administrative and the content remains the same as the 701-G version, effective 4/19/2019.

Modifications to update to the new template are not required. In lieu of modifications, the HRPP recommends adding a

note-to-file to your research records and/or regulatory binders.

A template note-to-file is available for researchers to use on the HRPP website at: https://compliance.ouhsc.edu/hrpp.
