Delta Dental of Oklahoma Provides a Cumulative $1 million in Scholarships to OU College of Dentistry

Published: Friday, May 6, 2022

Oklahoma City – Delta Dental of Oklahoma and the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation has awarded $118,000 in scholarships to 15 students at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry at the OU Health Sciences Center for the 2021-2022 academic year.

The awarding of this year’s scholarships equates to a cumulative amount of more than $1 million in scholarships received by dental students at the College of Dentistry over the last 20 years from Delta Dental of Oklahoma and its Foundation. This is also the first year scholarships from Delta Dental of Oklahoma are being awarded to dental hygiene students.

“For more than 20 years, Delta Dental of Oklahoma and its Foundation have been incredible supporters of the University of Oklahoma and the College of Dentistry,” said Amy Noah, vice president and chief advancement officer for the OU Foundation. “Their continued generosity and desire to invest in the future of our students is truly admirable, and we are fortunate to have such a dedicated partner.”

Delta Dental of Oklahoma and its Foundation established the annual scholarship program in 2001. The program provides scholarships to College of Dentistry dental and dental hygiene students planning to practice within Oklahoma after graduation.

“The College of Dentistry is grateful to Delta Dental of Oklahoma and its Foundation for their incredible generosity,” said Paul M. Mullasseril, D.D.S., M.S., dean of the College of Dentistry. “Without their support, so many of our college’s programs would cease to exist. Similarly, the scholarships awarded to our dental and dental hygiene students help to significantly offset the rising cost of dental school and help to equip our students with the skills needed to serve their patients.”

Students receiving a scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic year include:

  • Carley Abbott, DS3, of Noble
  • Conner Brasher, DS4, of Edmond
  • Britney Brzoticky, DH2, of Weatherford
  • Madison Campbell, DS4, of Alva

“Supporting the education of future dental professionals is incredibly important,” said John Gladden, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Oklahoma. “We are proud of the dedication these scholars demonstrate to their patients and communities, while they are in school and beyond.”

RESEARCH NEWSLETTER September 30, 2024

The Office of Research Administration Grants Team is currently understaffed by two positions, and we are expecting a high volume of applications for the October 7th NIH deadline. Please advise your PIs that processing times may take longer than usual so the sooner they can complete their application, the sooner it can be reviewed and submitted. If you have a list of upcoming application submissions, it would be helpful if you send it to your Sponsored Programs Administrator so we can review workloads of each individual and the team as a whole.

Waiver requests under ORA’s 3-day review deadline policy will be heavily scrutinized and approval will depend on the volume of timely received applications. ORA’s internal deadline for the October 7th deadline is October 2nd at 5:00 PM. Please note that per our policy, all documents must be in their final form, including science documents, to meet our 3-day review requirement. ORA will move forward with submission once we have completed our review to avoid a backlog on the day of the deadline.

Please read the attached document completely for complete details.

New OUHSC Policy Effective September 9, 2024: Research-Related Resource Requests

There is a new policy in effect for all research-related requests (e.g., equipment, startup funds, recruitment, retention, etc.).  The full policy is provided as an attachment and below is a summary.  Please circulate as needed to your business manager and faculty.  Your observance of this policy is greatly appreciated.

  • The faculty member requests research support from their department chair.
  • The department chair will review and determine the level of support to be provided by the department.
  • If the chair supports seeking some resources from a Center, if utilized, the chair will coordinate the level of support with the Center Director and include the commitment in the request.
  • The chair will forward the request including the department and Center commitments to the college dean.
  • The college dean will review the department and Center commitments and determine the level of additional college support that may be provided.  If commitments from the department, Center and college do not meet the research support needed, then the dean will forward the summary of commitments to the Vice President for Research to request the remaining support.
  • The Vice President for Research will review all commitments and communicate the request to the Senior Vice President and Provost to determine if additional support will be funded by the university and to what extent.
  • The Vice President for Research will communicate funding decisions to the faculty member, chair, Center director (if necessary), and dean.
  • If support is approved, the faculty member will provide draft letters of support to the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost as applicable.

This policy has been generated and edited by the Office of the Vice President for Research, various chairs of the basic science departments, various deans of colleges, and members of the Provost’s office, including the Senior Vice President and Provost, Dr. Raskob.
