Proposal Submission Timeline Calculating Tool

The Office of Research Administration (ORA) is pleased to announce the addition of a new proposal submission timeline calculating tool to the Research Administration website, which principal investigators and grant administrators can use to ensure they are meeting required internal review deadlines for submitting proposals to our office.

To use this calculator, please select your proposal type (Single Project Proposal vs. Multi-Project Proposal) and enter the sponsor's submission deadline in the box to calculate the date your proposal will be due to ORA (finalized proposal documents including all required signatures). The tool also calculates the due date to ORA for an optional proposal budget review.

Please follow the link below to access the calculating tool.

https://research.ouhsc.edu/research-administration/grants/internal-deadlines

Important ORA Notice: All grant and contract proposals MUST be submitted to ORA (through SoonerTrack) for review, approval, and submission, regardless of the type of grant or contract, whether it is for research, public outreach initiatives, professional or public services, or whether it involves payment. This includes contracts with OU Health.

Please note that all certifications, contracts, agreements, and other award acceptance documents must be signed by an ORA Authorized Official. Faculty and staff are NOT authorized to sign grants or contracts on behalf of the University or on behalf of any University department or employee. Only the ORA’s Authorized Official may accept a grant award or negotiate and execute contract details on behalf of the University.

Reminder of Upcoming New NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy Requirements

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has implemented a new Policy for Data Management and Sharing (DMS Policy), which will take effect January 25, 2023. The policy requires ALL new and competing proposals/renewals that will generate scientific data to submit a detailed plan outlining how data will be stored, protected, and ultimately shared. Below you can find some guidance and resources for creating a DMS Plan.

  • For applications being developed for due dates on or after January 25, 2023, a DMS Plan (recommended to be two pages or less in length) should be attached unless not required by the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) or Forms H Guidelines. Please note that a Resource Sharing Plan should still be included for sharing model organisms.
  • If data management and sharing costs are budgeted in a detailed budget, this should be described in the budget justification. Data management and sharing costs should be categorized under “Other Direct costs” on their own line.
  • If it is a modular budget and data management and sharing costs are planned, the “Additional Narrative” attachment should be included.
  • Do not include hypertext (e.g., hyperlinks and URLs) in the DMS Plan attachment.
  • NIH Resources: Check out the latest DMS policy information, resources, format page, and FAQs at sharing.nih.gov.
  • ORA Webinar: Understanding the New NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy (October. 26, 2022). To access the training, please click here

Canopy Health Funding Opportunity

Canopy Healthtech Program is a philanthropic, multi-institutional program that accelerates the translation of intellectual property at Oklahoma universities into commercially viable virtual health technologies. Canopy connects Oklahoma clinicians and technologists with each other and the local and national innovation ecosystem to support the development of virtual health technologies that satisfy current, pressing clinical pain points, ultimately resulting in new Oklahoma startups.  Funds are available to cover multiple concept and seed-stage projects, including associated wrap-around business and operational resources (marketing, quality systems, regulatory, and reimbursement). They are especially interested in virtual technologies that address challenges in women’s, mental, and rural health. All projects and their budgets are evaluated on their own merit: there is no minimum or maximum funding limit (beyond the financial capacity of Canopy). Each investigator should determine the funds required to progress the project to the next stage of available funding and justify their request accordingly.

The attached Canopy RFP outlines the inaugural program of Canopy Healthtech rolling out in 2023: the Canopy FUND. The Canopy Fund will grant nondilutive seed and concept awards to Oklahoma universities, totaling approximately $400,000 of investment. Award amount is at the discretion and justification of each inventor and should be used to complement institution-specific resources. Applicants are expected to familiarize themselves with this RFP, participate in the application process, and adhere to the deadlines herein. Applicants are further expected to be reasonably available to the Canopy team and OTT to answer any questions that may arise in this process.  Please see the attachment for further details and a complete description of the application process.  Contact Rachel Lane-McClain (rlane@ou.edu) or Dr. Thomas Wavering (wavering@ou.edu) if you have further questions.
