OUHSC Funding Opportunities

Presbyterian Health Foundation (PHF) Bridge Grant Program – Request For Applications

·         Cycle II PHF Bridge Grant Program Deadline: July 7, 2023

The primary objective of the PHF Bridge Grant Program is to provide funding to enhance OUHSC faculty competitiveness for extramural funding. OUHSC Principal Investigators are eligible if they  meet the following criteria: 1) have submitted an extramural application within the past 18 months that was scored but not funded, 2) are requesting over $750,000 in total direct costs and over  $200,000 in total facilities and administration (F&A) costs; and 3) received a review that ranks applications and provides critiques.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: This program can now provide funding for up to $100,000 for one year. SALARY and FRINGE BENEFITS may be requested for the Principal Investigator(s) up to $25,000 in total (salary + fringe benefits = $25,000) with the remaining portion, $75,000, used to support the project costs. Guidelines and Application Form are attached or can be found at https://research.ouhsc.edu/research-administration/grants/funding-opportunities/phf-funding. If you have any questions, please email  VPR@ouhsc.edu.

Office of Technology Commercialization presents the following opportunity for researchers to engage with industry (click here for more information, or email otc@ou.edu or gina-mcmillen@ouhsc.edu).

  • Chisei Pharmaceuticals is seeking novel targets/therapeutics for respiratory diseases with unmet disease, such as COPD, non-CF bronchiectasis and muco-ciliary dysfunction.  Multiple modalities, including small molecule, RNA-based or peptide based therapeutics and antibodies are of interest.  Out of Scope include asthma and CF-related bronchiectasis, gene therapy and cell therapy approaches, and medical devices, diagnostics and monitoring.  Submission entails a one-page 200-300 word non-confidential brief. (deadline 07/01).
  • A world leading crop science company seeks research related to methods of increasing fatty acid or oil production in annual crops.  Approaches of interest include native genes and pathways that can be changed via traditional breeding or gene editing and transgenes that can be introduced.  Out of scope are genes or pathways of animal origin and plant cultivation conditions (i.e. fertilisers) to increase oil accumulation and altering oil composition in non-terrestrial crops.    Submission entails a one-page 200-300 word non-confidential brief. (deadline 07/10).

NIH Notices

NOTE: When only one application is allowed per Institution according to the sponsor instructions, a one-page letter of intent summarizing the proposed project should be submitted to the Vice President for Research at least two months prior to the application deadline (unless otherwise noted).  The letters of intent will be reviewed and a single application will be chosen for submission from the University.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation: Newborn Screening Improvement Program Award

Description: Applications are now being accepted for the 2023 Screening Improvement Program (SIP) Award for Optimizing the Diagnosis of Infants. The application deadline is July 10, 2023. Please review the SIP Award Policies and Guidelines for full details on the award and instructions for the application process. For questions, contact Marissa Rollins (mrollins@cff.org).

HRSA Primary Care Training and Enhancement-Language and Disability Access (PCTE-LDA)

Description: The purpose of the PCTE-LDA program is to develop curricula and to train medical students, physician assistant students, and primary care medical residents to provide high quality primary care services to individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) and/or individuals with physical disabilities and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) with goals of improving health outcomes for these populations.

BRAIN Initiative: Exploratory Research Opportunities Using Invasive Neural Recording and Stimulating Technologies in the Human Brain (R61 Basic Experimental Studies with Humans Required)

Description: Invasive surgical procedures offer the opportunity for unique intracranial interventions such as the ability to record and stimulate intracranially within precisely localized brain structures in humans. Human studies using invasive technology are often constrained by a limited number of patients and available resources, and frequently the resulting datasets need to be aggregated across sites to achieve sufficient statistical power. To overcome these fundamental barriers and to investigate high-impact questions in human neuroscience, this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) seeks applications to assemble diverse, integrated, multi-disciplinary teams that cross boundaries of interdisciplinary collaboration. The research should be proposed as exploratory research and planning activities to establish feasibility, proof-of-principle and early-stage development that, if successful, would support, enable, and/or lay the groundwork for a potential, subsequent Research Opportunities Using Invasive Neural Recording and Stimulating Technologies in the Human Brain, as described in the companion NOFO (RFA-NS-22-041). Projects should maximize opportunities to conduct innovative in vivo neuroscience research made available by direct access to the brain from invasive surgical procedures. Projects should employ approaches guided by specified theoretical constructs and by quantitative, mechanistic models where appropriate.

Recipients will join a consortium working group, coordinated by the NIH, to identify consensus standards of practice, including neuroethical considerations, to collect and provide data for ancillary studies, and to aggregate and standardize data for dissemination among the wider scientific community.
