Notices and Reminders

Oklahoma Nathan Shock Center mentorship program - support to early career scientists new to aging research or are starting an independent research program focused on aging or on geroscience.  Please see attached flyer for more complete information (NSC_MENTORSHIP).

ORA Reminder: Please note that in the new SoonerTrack system, when a Key Participant on a proposal commits cost-shared effort to the project, only the Financially Responsible Department (FRD) and the Key Participant will be informed of the commitment. The cost-shared effort is listed on the Key Participant’s Compliance Form and is approved by them. Keep in mind that the Key Participant's Business Manager or the Department Approver will not have access to their Compliance Forms or, consequently, their effort commitment. Therefore, it is the Principal Investigator, their FRD, and the Key Participant’s responsibility to ensure that the cost-shared effort on the grant is communicated with the Key Participant’s department.

Resources Available to Researchers for Preparing NIH Data Management and Sharing Plans

OU IT has provided some resources and guidance on research data storage and costs. Please refer to the documents below that are attached.
  • Research Data Infographics (PDF)
  • Research Matrix (PDF)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be aware that effective for applications submitted for due dates on or after October 5, 2023, NIH will no longer require the use of the single DMS cost line item. NIH recognizes that DMS costs may be requested in many cost categories. Therefore, in line with NIH standard budget instructions, DMS costs must be requested in the appropriate cost category, e.g., personnel, equipment, supplies, and other expenses, following the instructions for the R&R Budget Form or PHS 398 Modular Budget Form, as applicable. While the single cost line item is no longer required for applications submitted for due dates on or after October 5, 2023, NIH will require applicants to specify estimated DMS cost details within the “Budget Justification” attachment of the R&R Budget Form or “Additional Narrative Justification” attachment of the PHS 398 Modular Budget Form, pursuant to the instructions. For more information, please see https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-23-161.html. For applications submitted before October 5, 2023, you are still required to include the “Data Management and Sharing Costs” line item under F. Other Direct Costs on the R&R Budget Form.

Mentorship Skills Matter: Researchers are mentored at all stages of their career, with mentors providing key support and guidance for the successful professional and ethical development of their mentees. Anyone who has experienced a great or not-so-great mentor knows how important a mentor’s guidance can be. If you’re a faculty member at OUHSC and have never had formal mentorship training or if you’d like to improve your mentoring skills no matter your career level, consider signing up for free mentor workshops this fall provided by the OUHSC Oklahoma Center for Mentoring Excellence – see flyer attached (OCME Mentor Flyer 2023-2024).
